What is the EcoFlow E980 best suited for?
The E980 is a portable power station with a 980Wh LiFePO₄ battery. Its AC, USB-A, USB-C and 12V DC outputs let you power compatible household appliances, electronics and mobile devices at home or on the go.
What appliances can I connect to the AC outlets?
The AC outlets provide 500W of total continuous pure sine wave output, with a surge rating of 750W. Before connecting your appliances, check their power requirements and ensure their combined demand remains within the rated limit.
Can the E980 run appliances rated above 500W?
X-Boost allows the E980 to operate certain higher wattage appliances without immediately triggering overload protection. It supports compatible appliances rated up to 650W. X-Boost is more suitable for heating devices and is not recommended for appliances with strict voltage requirements or voltage protection, such as precision instruments. Test your device before relying on this feature.
Can I charge laptops, phones and other USB devices?
Yes. The E980 has two USB-C ports, each providing up to 100W, with 200W total. It also has two standard USB-A ports rated at 12W each and two fast charging USB-A ports rated at 18W each. Press the USB power button to enable the outputs.
What 12V devices can I power?
The two DC5521 outputs each provide up to 38W, while the DC outlet provides up to 126W. Check your device’s voltage and power requirements before connecting it, and note the manual’s shared output limits.
How quickly can I recharge the E980 from a wall outlet?
Using X-Stream AC charging at up to 650W, the E980 can be fully charged in approximately two hours under the manual’s stated conditions. You can adjust the charging speed through the EcoFlow app.
Can I recharge it with solar panels?
Yes. The E980 supports solar input of 11–60V at up to 15A, with a maximum charging input of 500W. Ensure your panel’s output voltage stays within 60V to prevent damage. Solar panels and the solar to XT60/XT60i charging cable are not included.
Can I charge the E980 in my vehicle?
Yes. DC charging supports 12V and 24V vehicle batteries, with a default input current of 8A. The DC charging cable is not included. Start the vehicle before charging to reduce the risk of draining its battery, and ensure the outlet and cable are in good condition.
How can I estimate how long it will run my devices?
The LCD screen displays the estimated remaining operating time based on the current load. This estimate is most useful for appliances with relatively stable power consumption. Devices that frequently start, stop or change power levels may produce less consistent estimates.
Can I use the E980 as emergency backup power?
Yes. Its EPS function switches connected devices from grid power to battery power within 30ms during an outage. It does not provide 0ms switching and should not be used with equipment that requires uninterrupted 0ms UPS protection, such as data servers and workstations. EcoFlow recommends testing compatibility and powering only one device at a time in this setup.
What can I do with the EcoFlow app?
The app allows you to monitor power consumption, adjust settings, customise charging and energy preferences, and receive troubleshooting guidance and firmware updates. You can manage the E980 over Wi-Fi, or locally through Bluetooth when internet access is limited.
What should I know before connecting a refrigerator?
Refrigerators and air conditioners operate intermittently, so the E980 may interpret their idle periods as inactivity and automatically turn off AC output. For critical continuous operation, set the AC timeout interval to “never” in the EcoFlow app and check the battery level regularly.
What comes in the box?
The package contains the EcoFlow E980 power station, AC charging cable, user manual and warranty card. Solar and DC vehicle charging cables are not included.
Can I use it with medical equipment?
The E980 is not intended for life sustaining medical equipment, including medical-grade ventilators, hospital-grade CPAP systems or artificial lungs. For other medical equipment, consult the device manufacturer before use. If you use medical implants or personal medical devices, ask their manufacturer about possible electromagnetic interference and safe separation distances.
